Music therapy is an established healthcare profession. It involves the use of music by a credentialed Music Therapist who develops individualized treatment interventions with people of all ages and ability levels to address their social, communication, emotional, physical, cognitive, and sensory needs.
What is a Music Therapy session like?
Each session is Client-Centered, meaning that it is tailored directly to the individual strengths and needs of a client. Activities may involve composing music, creating music, singing, moving to, and/or listening to music.
How does Music Therapy work?
Through musical involvement with a credentialed Music Therapist, clients' abilities are "strengthened and transferred to other areas of their lives. Music therapy also provides avenues for communication that can be helpful to those who find it difficult to express themselves in words. Research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in many areas such as: overall physical rehabilitation and facilitating movement, increasing people's motivation to become engaged in their treatment, providing emotional support for clients and their families, and providing an outlet for expression of feelings." -American Music Therapy Association (AMTA)
